A startup offering unusual gifts for men, such as drinking paraphernalia and weapons to use during a zombie apocalypse, has raised a $3.1 million seed round from investors to keep up with increasing demand, Venture Capital Dispatch has learned.
Since it launched in 2012, Man Crates Inc. has grown quickly. Executives say it is on track to do more than $10 million in revenue this year from customers seeking unique presents that can be shipped the same day they are ordered.
As the name implies, a collection of themed gifts, like whiskey appreciation or retro gaming, arrive inside a wooden crate. There are no ribbons, bows or instructions; a crow bar is included for easy opening.
