Shopify Inc. is set to start trading this week, in what could be the first in a series of high-profile public offerings from Canadian tech firms. Here’s what you need to know about the Ottawa-based company.
What is Shopify?
Shopify offers a platform through which small and medium-sized businesses can establish and develop their retail operations. Its cloud-based software allows retailers to manage a range of store functions – such as transactions, inventory and accounting – across all of their sales channels, from digital stores to brick-and-mortar shops. As of March 31, it had more than 162,000 merchants using its platform in roughly 150 countries.
